COMMUNITY-CENTRIC
Clean electricity for Stafford County
Wyatt Lane Solar is a proposed community-scale solar farm that would bring clean, quiet electricity to Stafford County. The Charlottesville-based team from TerraForm Power is the developer.
Located across I-95 from Chichester Park, this low-impact project has a small footprint and will not be visible from any adjacent roadways, shielded by mature trees and other vegetation. It will connect to an existing, underground 34.5 kV power line.
Wyatt Lane Solar will be a quiet, passive neighbor that brings in revenue to the county without drawing on county services.

LOW-COST GENERATION
A part of the energy solution
Stafford County has a unique economic opportunity ahead. Energy consumption is increasing across the Commonwealth from population growth, manufacturing and data centers, and other factors.
Distributed electricity generation such as community-scale solar is well positioned to meet that demand locally and affordably. According to the US Energy Information Administration:
solar is one the cheapest forms of electricity generation America can build today, even without federal tax credits.
That’s good news for Stafford County residents.
Plus, solar is a significant source of job growth and investment in Virginia. As of late 2025, the Commonwealth has attracted nearly $10 billion in lifetime solar investment, according to the DC-based Solar Energy Industries Association.

Frequently asked questions
Where is the energy going?
Utility customers, both residential and commercial, will consume the energy generated by the array. The power is going directly to an existing Dominion distribution line. Solar energy is one of the most cost-effective new energy sources.
Are solar panels safe?
Solar panels are safe and do not pose a health or safety risk. The technology is also being used atop public schools in Virginia and on homes and public buildings across the country.
What happens to the land at the end of the solar project’s life?
At the end of the project’s lifetime, decommissioning occurs. This includes removing the solar system. After the equipment is removed from the site, restoration of the site formerly occupied by the array occurs. A decommissioning bond will be implemented to ensure funding for decommissioning is available under any circumstance, meaning decommissioning is paid for up-front by the project so costs will never fall to the landowner or County.
